A letter from July 2006
Mrs. Busch was born and raised in Dawson, GA. This is in the Southwestern part of the state. When I met her she was living in Columbus, GA which is in the West Central part of the state.
Michelle – for your age you have traveled a lot! When I was your age the furthest I had gone was 200 miles to Warrenton, VA where I had an Aunt and Uncle living on Airlie Farm. In those days people did not travel as much as they do today. As a youngster I lived with my family in Valley Forge (population 500 people) and a BIG EVENT was to go to Phoenixville, 3½ miles away, with my Mother and Father and do grocery shopping. In those days bread cost 5¢ a loaf!!! Heh, heh. No, it was not sliced!
