History. On April 18, 1942 sixteen B-25s took off from the deck of the aircraft carrier Hornet and dropped bombs on Tokyo. The morale of Our County was very low at the time because of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor – December 7, 1941. So the dropping of bombs on Tokyo was a GREAT morale lifter. After the drop the planes went on to land in China [because they did not have enough fuel to return across seas]. A B-25 is a medium sized bomber and one had NEVER BEFORE taken off from the deck of an aircraft carrier.

Today only five crewmen (from all of those on that historic flight) are still living. World War Veterans are dying at a rate of one thousand a day!
