I chuckled again at your question about going to Philadelphia. Once a year my Mother would take my sister and me to Philadelphia! Before Christmas my Mother would take us to the Reading Railroad station in Valley Forge and away we would go. She took us to the “Department Stores” – Gimbels, Snellenbergs, Lits, etc. We would look at all the decorations, visit with Santa Claus, etc. When she had the opportunity she would quietly order (and pay for) toys to be sent to our home in VF. It was and EXCITING trip!
