Saturday Nite

Back when our children (Bill and Barbara) were very young we went to Georgia each year to visit Mrs. Buschs’ parents. And then as they grew older we felt we should plan a more complete vacation for them. So in 1964 we bought an Apache Camper. Some would call it a Pop-Up camper, others would call it a Fold-Down Camper. It had no rest-room facilities in it so we had to stop at  campgrounds where this kind of thing was available.

In 1964 we took that Camper westward – Wisconsin, The Black Hills of South Dakota, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, etc. Had a wonderful time. We had our own stove so Mrs. Busch had to cook our meals. We had a lot of “one-dish” meals. Meat, potatoes, vegetables, etc. all thrown into one pot and cooked. Sort of like a stew. It was our first experience with this sort of thing but we enjoyed it.

In 1965 we went to Eastern Canada and Nova Scotia. Camping along the way. Loved it. Came back thru New York City and visited the World’s Fair.

In 1966 we went into West United States – Texas, White Sands, The Painted Desert, the Grand Canyon, etc. It was HOT that Summer – at Hoover Dam the temperatures reached 105 degrees.

As the children became older this type of vacation was less appealing to them. This is understandable.

And then after I retired Mrs. Busch and I took longer and more distant vacations – Mexico, Jamaica, Majorica/Spain, Alaska (27 days), The British Isles, Europe (twice), China (28 days), The Holy Lands of Israel, Yugoslavia/Greece, etc.

But in recent years we have been going to Florida in the wintertime so that is sort of a “vacation” for us. So these Summers we are pretty much staying at home. But we have had some GREAT trips.
